Term Name: small nucleolar RNA
Synonyms: small nucleolar RNAs, snoRNA, snoRNAs
Definition: A group of non-coding RNAs that primarily accumulate in the nucleoli and consist of 60-300 nucleotides. They are responsible for the post-transcriptional modification and maturation of ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs), and other cellular RNAs. There are two main classes of snoRNA, the C/D box snoRNAs, which are associated with methylation, and the H/ACA box snoRNAs, which are associated with pseudouridylation.
